Find Cross Stitch Fabric by Count

Cross stitch fabric counts can vary from as low as 6 to as high as 50 (or more). In cross stitch, the lower count (such as 6) will make bigger Xs than the higher counts.  The reason is because the number represents how many threads there are per inch.  So, in 14 count fabric, there are 14 threads in each inch, which typically will mean that you will have 14 Xs in each inch of fabric.

Some stitchers, though, choose to stitch "over two" which means that the X will cross over 2 threads.  In this case, remember that you'll need to divide the fabric count by 2 when making your calculations.  For example, if you are stitching "over two" on 28 count fabric, you'll actually only have 14 stitches per inch.
